Defence Anti-Malarial Research

Cooperative Anti-Malarial Research

This program is conducted under a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU)

  • A delegation from Vietnam's Military Medical Department (MMD) visited Australia in December 1999.

  • An MOU covering joint cooperative anti-malarial research over the next 4-5 years was co-signed by Australia and Vietnam in March 2000 and has just recently been extended to 2010.

  • Under the MOU, three MMD officers are now studying in Australia.

  • Australian Army Malaria Institute officers visit Vietnam regularly and have conducted field work in Vietnam.

  • In 2005, the Australian Ambassador, H.E. Joe Thwaites opened a project sponsored anti malaria blood testing laboratory at the VPA Medical Institute Hanoi
