Client Use      

Form 157A – Application for a student visa (fully completed, signed and dated by the applicant).

Two passport sized photographs (4cm x 6cm). 

Photographs must not be more than 6 months old.

 

Fully completed Details of Relatives form.

Certified copy of biodata page of passport for applicant and any family members included in application (passports must be valid for at least a further 6 months).

Note: Original passports should be provided after applicants have undertaken medical examinations when requested by our office.
 

 

Original Curriculum Vitae (CV), including details of education background and employment history, certified by the local authority (must not be more than 6 months old).

 

Certified copy of all pages of current Household Registration Book.

 

Certified copy of Birth Certificate.

 

Evidence of relationship status:

  • If married, certified copy of Marriage Certificate.

  • If in a de facto relationship, evidence that the relationship has existed for at least 12 months.

  • If divorced, certified copy of Divorce Certificate.

  • If widowed, certified copy of the deceased partner’s Death Certificate.

 

If currently employed, evidence of that employment (such as employment contract, letter from employer).

 

Enrolment and academic documentation

Valid electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) and/or letter of offer issued by the education provider for the proposed course(s) of study (gap of no more than 2 months or 3 months over December period and no overlapping between courses).

Note: If COE is not provided at time of application, it must be provided before a visa can be granted. 

 

Original and one copy of English language test certificate that was taken less than 2 years before date of lodgement of application. The test can be taken under the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) or the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE).

  • For direct entry into a VET course, the minimum test score required is: IELTS – 5.5; TOEFL – 46; PTE – 42; or CAE – 47.

  • If a COE or letter of offer in an ELICOS with a duration of no more than 30 weeks is provided, the minimum test score required is: IELTS – 4.5; TOEFL – 32; PTE – 30; or CAE – 36.

 

Original and one copy of school records (they must provide evidence that they have successfully completed Year 11 or its equivalent).

 

Original and one copy of school certificates and any other educational qualifications achieved.

 

Original and one copy transcript of any educational courses currently enrolled in.

 

Financial documentation

The applicant must provide evidence that they have sufficient funds to cover themselves and their family members for their first 18 months of their stay in Australia for:
  • travel costs to and from Australia
  • course fees
  • living costs
  • school costs for any school-age children.

Evidence of any scholarship(s) awarded to the applicant for this study.

 

Evidence of any prepaid formal boarding or homestay fees arranged through the education provider (such as a contract or an authorised receipt of payment from the education provider).

 

Original signed financial undertaking from the individual(s) providing the funds outlining the relationship between the applicant and the funds provider.

 

Evidence of identity of financial sponsor(s):

  • If from Vietnam, a copy of identity card.

  • If from Australia, a copy of passport or driving licence.

 

Evidence of funds, from the individual(s) providing the funds, in the form of original bankbook, bank deposit, home loan or credit line agreement together with relevant supporting documents.

  • If funds are through money deposit held in Vietnam, it must be held at least 3 consecutive months prior to the date of lodgement. Evidence of income stream (such as employment contract, letter from employer stating salary and length of employment, business licence) must be submitted.

  • If funds are from Australia, a certified copy of full bank statement which details full name of account holder (not more than 3 months old) is to be submitted and it must be held at least 3 consecutive months prior to the date of lodgement. Evidence of income stream (such as previous year’s Notice of Assessment by the Australian Taxation Office) must be submitted.

  • If funds are being provided through a credit line, evidence that the loan has been disbursed:

o Notarised property mortgage contract.
o Notarised copy of house ownership certificate/land use right certificate acknowledges the mortgage registration of the property as secured asset to obtain the above credit line agreement.
o Property evaluation minutes.
o Receipt of handling the ownership of mortgaged property.
o Evidence of secured transaction registration.
o Debit note.
o Disbursement voucher.
o Money transfer telex.

Health documentation

Medical examinations cannot be undertaken before an application is lodged. After application lodgement, our office will contact the applicant with instructions about undertaking medical examinations. 

Evidence of valid Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for applicant (and any family members included in the application) for the proposed duration of the student visa.

The duration of student visas is determined as follows:

  • Duration of course is 10 months or less: the applicant will usually be granted a visa that ceases one calendar month after the expected course completion date.

  • Duration of course is longer than 10 months and finishes at the end of the standard Australian academic year (November-December): the applicant will usually be granted a visa that ceases on 15 March the following year.

  • Duration of course is longer than 10 months but does not follow the standard Australian academic year: the applicant will usually be granted a visa that ceases two calendar months after the expected course completion date.

 

Welfare for students under 18 

Original travel consent letter signed by both parents with signatures verified by the local authorities.

 

If an applicant intends to reside in Australia with a parent or other relative, they must provide:

  • Form 157N – Nomination of a student guardian; See: http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/application-forms/forms_num2.htm 

  • evidence of the relationship between the applicant and their relative;

  • evidence that the relative is at least 21 years of age;

  • evidence that the relative has the right to remain in Australia for the period of the applicant’s stay, or until the applicant turns 18 years, whichever is the lesser period;

  • original police certificate from each country where the relative (since turning 16 years of age) has resided for a total of 12 months or more in the last 10 years. If they need one from Australia, the relative must obtain an Australian National Police Check (NPC) from the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Only a “Complete Disclosure” NPC is acceptable. If welfare arrangements are arranged by the education provider(s), Confirmation of Appropriate Accommodation and Welfare Arrangements (CAAW) letter(s) must be submitted.

Note: Students undertaking a package of courses with different providers must submit separate CAAW letters from each provider, and must ensure that there are continuous welfare arrangements in place between courses.
 

 

If family members are included in the application

Certified copy(s) of Birth Certificate(s) for family members.

 

Original Curriculum Vitae (CV) and certified copy of all pages of Household Registration Book (if not the same as that of the applicant) for spouse or de facto partner.

 

If the family member is the primary applicant’s child and the other parent is not applying to travel, consent from the other parent for the child to travel to Australia with signature witnessed by the local authorities.

 

Evidence of sufficient funds to support accompanying family member’s stay in Australia.

 

If dependent child is of school age, evidence of enrolment in an Australian school, including payment of the required fee.
