Form 157A – Application for a student visa (fully completed, signed and dated by the applicant).

Two passport size photographs (4cm x 6cm).

Photographs must not be more than 6 months old.

 

Fully completed Details of Relatives form.

Certified copy of biodata page of passport for applicant and any family members included in application (passports must be valid for at least a further 6 months).

Note: Original passports should be provided after applicants have undertaken medical examinations when requested by our office.
 

 

Original Curriculum Vitae (CV), including details of education background and employment history, certified by the local authority (must not be more than 6 months old).

 

Certified copy of all pages of current Household Registration Book.

 

Certified copy of Birth Certificate.

 

Evidence of relationship status:

  • If married, certified copy of Marriage Certificate.

  • If in a de facto relationship, evidence that the relationship has existed for at least 12 months.

  • If divorced, certified copy of Divorce Certificate.

  • If widowed, certified copy of the deceased partner’s Death Certificate.

 

If currently employed, evidence of that employment (such as employment contract, letter from employer).

 

Enrolment and academic documentation

Valid electronic Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) and/or letter of offer issued by the education provider for the proposed course(s) of study (gap of no more than 2 months or 3 months over December period and no overlapping between courses).

Note: If COE is not provided at time of application, it must be provided before a visa can be granted. 

 

Original and one copy of certificates for educational qualifications achieved.

 

Original and one copy transcript of any educational courses currently enrolled in.

 

Financial documentation

Evidence of any scholarship(s) awarded to the applicant for this study.

 

Declaration by the applicant that they have access to sufficient funds to cover themselves and their family members for the full period of their stay in Australia for:

  • travel costs to and from Australia

  • course fees

  • living costs

  • school costs for any school-age children.

 

Health documentation

Medical examinations cannot be undertaken before an application is lodged. After application lodgement, our office will contact the applicant with instructions about undertaking medical examinations.

Evidence of valid Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for applicant (and any family members included in the application) for the proposed duration of the student visa.

To allow time for the interactive marking of a thesis, the duration of Subclass 574 (Postgraduate Research Sector) visas is determined as follows:

  • Duration of course is 10 months or less: the applicant will usually be granted a visa that ceases 7 calendar months after the expected course completion date.

  • Duration of course is longer than 10 months and finishes at the end of the standard Australian academic year (November-December): the applicant will usually be granted a visa that ceases on 15 September the following year.

  • Duration of course is longer than 10 months but does not follow the standard Australian academic year: the applicant will usually be granted a visa that ceases 8 calendar months after the expected course completion date.

 

If family members are included in the application

Certified copy(s) of Birth Certificate(s) for family members.

 

Original Curriculum Vitae (CV) and certified copy of all pages of Household Registration Book (if not the same as that of the applicant) for spouse or de facto partner.

 

If the family member is the primary applicant’s child and the other parent is not applying to travel, consent from the other parent for the child to travel to Australia with signature witnessed by the local authorities.

 

Evidence of sufficient funds to support accompanying family member’s stay in Australia.

 

If dependent child is of school age, evidence of enrolment in an Australian school, including payment of the required fee.
