POSITION: Locally Engaged Employee Designated Level 6

POSITION TITLE: Visa and Citizenship Decision Maker (Immigration and Citizenship)

The Visa and Citizenship Office of the Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City has vacancies for full time Expatriate Locally Engaged Designated Officers (LEDs).  The positions will be filled on a 12 month contract basis with the possibility of extension, in line with the conditions of employment applicable to locally engaged staff.

One of the vacancies will arise in July 2008 and the Visa and Citizenship Office will be looking to finalise the selection process and fill that position as quickly as possible.  Applicants selected for interview should be in a position to advise of a realistic start date at interview.

The specific duties of the positions may include:

  • Assessing and deciding applications for Australian visas in accordance with lawful decision making and natural justice principles;
  • Responding to client requests and enquiries in accordance with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC)'s Client Service Charter and case management procedures;
  • Operating computer systems and maintaining immigration databases; and
  • Preparing correspondence and decision records.

The positions are open to nationals of Australia, New Zealand, Britain, Canada, the USA, France and Germany only.  While not essential, the ability to obtain an Australian security clearance is desirable.  Long term residence in or commitment to, Ho Chi Minh City is desirable.

Selection for these positions will be judged against the selection criteria (provided below) and the names and contact details of two referres must be included with the application.

The salary offered is $2,338.00 USD per month.  Please note that all relocation costs are at the expense of the successful candidate including travel, shipment of personal effects and accommodation.  You will also be required to arrange your own travel and health insurance.

  • A strong understanding of ethical owrk practices and risk management practices.
