Position: Locally Engaged Employee Level 6
Position title: Visa and Citizenship Assessor (Immigration and Citizenship)
The Visa and Citizenship Office of the Australian Consulate-General is seeking applications from suitably qualified Vietnamese citizens for vacancies that are available or may occur at the Locally Engaged Employee Grade 6 level.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they are self-motivated, well organised and able to work well within a team that has to meet dead lines within a dynamic and large case load.
This is a full time long term position (12 months).
Locally Engaged Employees Grade 6 (LEE 6) are responsible for undertaking a range of operational and administrative processing work, including assessing visa applications and interpreting. The provision of services and advice to clients in writing, by telephone and over our public enquiry counter is a key element of this work.
Fluency in both written and spoken Vietnamese and English is essential.
Selection for the vacancies will be based on merit and judged against specific selection criteria.
All applications must address the five Selection Criteria, which are provided below along with the Duty Statement.
All applications must include two nominated referees and be no longer than three pages in length. Closing date is Friday, 11 July 2008. Only short listed applicants will be contacted regarding the next phase of the selection process, which will involve English language testing.

JOB DESCRIPTION
As a member of a team, with minimal supervision, assist with the processing of applications for temporary and permanent visas:
-
Undertake a wide range of operational and administrative tasks in accordance with appropriate legislation, policy and procedures. Assess visa applications and make recommendations in accordance with migration legislation.

Attend to inquiries from clients, including inquiries of some complexity, and provide information and advice. Undertake counter duties and attend to telephone enquiries.

Prepare routine correspondence and assist with the preparation of more complex correspondence, reports and documentation.

Liaise with staff of the Section, other Consulate staff, clients and external agencies/organisations on matters relating to work tasks and the work area.

Work in a team environment, assist with team tasks and provide advice and guidance to new staff.

Act as sub-collector according to strict guidelines for the accountability of money and assist with switchboard and counter duties.

Provide translation and interpretation services as required.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1. COMMUNICATING
High level of oral and written communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken Vietnamese and English. Ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients from a range of diverse backgrounds.
2. WORKING IN TEAMS
Ability to work as a team member including the ability to contribute to the achievement of team/work unit goals, team cohesion and team productivity.
3. MANAGING INFORMATION
Good information management skills, including the ability to interpret and apply Australian migration legislation and procedures. Ability to effectively use a number of programs to find, extract and analyse information.
4. MANAGING WORK
Ability to organise work, set priorities and monitor work flow to achieve workplace goals with set timeframes. Ability to work effectively under pressure. Capacity to work independently on specific tasks and in a team environment.
5. FOCUSING ON QUALITY
Ability to provide a quality professional service, apply ethical work practices and demonstrate integrity in all aspects of work. Ability to respond flexibly to changing demands in the workplace and to contribute ideas to improve efficiency in the workplace. Ability to participate in performance management processes, including the ability to seek, receive, provide and act on performance feedback.
