IMPORTANT NOTICE - IMPLEMENTATION OF LABEL-FREE SUBCLASS 679 - SPONSORED FAMILY VISITOR VISAS
Since 22 December 2008, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has implemented granting of "label free" subclass 679 - Sponsored Family Visitor Visas for Vietnamese citizens.
According to new arrangements, Vietnamese citizens who are granted 679 visas will be able to choose to travel to Australia without necessarily having visa labels printed into their passports. This visa, when not evidenced with a paper visa label, will in fact become an electronic visa.
Vietnamese citizens travelling to Australia on 679 visas will carry their Vietnamese passports with visa approval letters when departing Vietnam. Holding a 679 label free visa will not affect check-in procedures with your airline as the airline is able to verify that a visa is held electronically.
Once the airline has issued a boarding pass, 679 visa holders should present their passports to the Vietnamese Immigration authorities on departure along with the visa approval letter to satisfy Vietnamese exit requirements.
Please note that this is not "visa-free" travel and this only applies to 679 - Sponsored Family Visa holders.
Sponsored Family Visitor Visa (subclass 679) must be lodged in Australia by the sponsor. Visa applicants should complete Form 48S - Application to visit Australia as a sponsored family visitor and send it to their sponsor in Australia along with all other supporting documents. The sponsor should complete Form 1149 - Application for sponsorship for sponsored visitors and lodge both form 48S and form 1149 with the supporting documents at their state or territory DIAC office. Completed applications can be lodged in person or by mail. Further information regarding Sponsored Family Visitor Visa is available on the DIAC main website.
